Science Competition
Ever wondered how fast a penguin runs? Or how long it takes to boil an egg in Antarctica? I’m looking for you to turn your questions into a science experiment that I can carry out in Antarctica. First you need to think of a question which you can turn into a simple experiment that I can do. Then I need a list of equipment that I would need to carry out your experiment and some simple instructions that I can follow. Remember I will be dragging all my equipment on a sledge so the equipment will have to be simple and light! Email me your experiment and don’t forget to add what you predict will happen and why you think your experiment should win. I will carry out the winning experiment in Antarctica and let you know the results through this website. Hopefully I will be able to video it too, so you can see exactly what happens. Don’t forget to tell me your name, age and school. Good luck!
Feeling Arty?
I need you to send me your designs for a logo that I can make into a sledge pennant to hang from my sledge. The pennant will help let other people know who I am and will help me to find the sledge if it gets covered in snow. It’s bound to be visible in photographs and video footage so get your artwork out there! Don’t forget to let me know your name, age and school when you send in your designs.
Geography Competition
On the Year 8 Geography link you will find details of a special competition for Year 8 pupils at Higham.

If you take a thermo flask full of English tap water and another thermo flask of filtered water and pour them into seperate dishes in the a normal area (where no one is interferring with the temperature, fans etc.)and leave them for 15 minutes. After the time has expired take the temprature and see which one is the coldest. Also see if they have frozen at all. I would like the experiment to happen 3 times in 1 day.
9:00am, 12:00am, 6pm and see whether the time of day affects the tempreature. I would predict that the midday experiment would show that it is warmer then than anytime time else generaly.
I think my experiment should win because it is simple and easy to do and will prove just which water (filtered or tap)cools the quickest.
You will need:
6 thermo flasks
tap water
filtered water
thermometor
results chart
2 bowls
HERE ARE YOUR INSTRUCTIONS DR ROGERS!!!
1. Bring both thermo flasks with water in and pour them into seperate bowls.
2.This must be done at 9:00am. Leave them for 15 minutes then take tempreature of water.
3.At 12:00am repeat this with another 2 thermo flasks.
4.Reapeat with fresh water again, take final tempreature and record all results in a table and report back to the website!!!
My name is Dawn and I’m 11 years old. Good Luck and I hope I win!
