Welcome to my Antarctic blog site. In November 2007 I will be one of four teachers carrying out an epic scientific expedition to Antarctica. We’ll be camping in Antarctica facing typical temperatures of -20C and windspeeds that could reach up to 100mph. Why? Because we want people to get a better idea of what science is all about and appreciate just how important Antarctica is to all of us.
You can follow all the ups and downs of the expedition here. Take a look through these pages to find out how the teachers got selected and what kind of training we are doing. When I’m in Antarctica I will be posting regular blogs up here to let you know what it’s
like camping and collecting scientific data in the most extreme place on earth. Find out what new discoveries we make and how we’re coping with the conditions.
Ever wondered what it was like to sleep on snow or how you go to the toilet in Antarctica? I’d love to hear your comments and questions and I’ll do my best to answer them! If you think you’d like me to carry out an experiment for you in Antarctica let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Have a look at the competitions section of this website.
The Fuchs Foundation Antarctic Expedition 2007 (FFAE2007) celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first trans-Antarctic crossing by Sir Vivian Fuchs. You can read more about the history of this expedition here.
This teacher expedition is the first one to be organised by the Fuchs Foundation. The next will be an expedition to the Arctic in 2009.
